There is no one way to raise children, and connecting with the kids in our lives can sometimes be really challenging. It’s at times like these where we most often lean into power struggles. When we run out of tools or methods for handling a particular challenge, humans often resort to “brute force” methods, such as anger, yelling, and aggression. Though these methods were only ever meant for survival purposes, many people find that they are the only tool they have left for feeling like they have control.

To build a healthier relationship with a child or adolescent, the first thing to remember is that they speak a different “language” than you do. Learning to bridge this language barrier is critical to finding common ground to build from. Additionally, learning how to communicate clearly and effectively with each other can help to relieve challenges around unclear expectations.

Parent coaching with LaunchPad: Experiential Foundations is designed to slow down interactions and place conflict in a defined structure that utilizes Non-Violent Communication, active listening, and healthy space-taking to move through conflict towards resolution and to create an actionable plan to mitigate conflict in the future. 

While working with a coach from LaunchPad, your family members will explore and share their unique perspective of the challenges and conflict within the family unit. Once we create unified ambitions, we will explore action plans and communication skills that work for everyone. Together, we will create a structure that everyone can own and protect.

Parent coaching typically begins with a month of “on-boarding” where the family identifies the challenge and the coach develops and understanding for a support structure. After completing “on-boarding”, LaunchPad will work with the family to determine appropriate continued support. As the needs of each family are different, this structure is highly flexible and able to be individualized to the family.
